American Beech Solar Brings 196 MW Online in North Carolina as PJM Demand Accelerates

At 196 MWdc, American Beech is one of MN8 Energy’s largest operating projects. Built in just 13 months and structured around a 15-year power purchase agreement, the project adds new generation to the PJM grid.
PJM Interconnection, America’s biggest grid operator, hasn’t faced this kind of strain in decades. Data center buildouts, industrial expansion, and demand spikes are overwhelming the grid as it exists today. The grid urgently needs new, reliable generation online. MN8 Energy’s American Beech Solar project in Halifax County, North Carolina, is exactly that kind of answer. At 196 MWdc and 140 MW AC, the project reached commercial operation on November 25, 2025 — just 13 months after breaking ground — delivering a major new block of generation capacity directly into PJM’s Mid-Atlantic footprint.

Anchored by a 15-year power purchase agreement

American Beech Solar’s 140 MW scale is anchored by a long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreement with Microsoft. That commitment—a 15-year partnership—is what enables reliable, predictable solar supply to PJM at the scale the grid increasingly needs. Delivering a VPPA of this tenor and creditworthiness is itself a significant milestone. For American Beech, it’s the foundation that turns capacity into grid-serving reality.

Nextracker precision across 196 megawatts

American Beech Solar is built to run reliably for decades. The project uses 336,000 high-efficiency Jinko Solar bifacial modules paired with Nextracker’s single-axis tracking systems, one of the most proven platforms in utility-scale solar. The tracker’s TrueCapture software continuously adjusts each row to optimize energy capture throughout the day. Thirty-eight Sungrow central inverters convert that DC power for grid delivery into PJM’s Mid-Atlantic network, a region where demand is spiking as data centers, industrial loads, and transmission constraints all collide.

Thirteen months from ground break to delivering

The construction timeline at American Beech Solar is exceptional by any measure. Notice to Proceed was issued on October of 2024, with mechanical completion following under eight months later. The project hit its commercial operation date in November of 2025. From NTP to COD was 13 months, a construction benchmark that speaks to the maturity of MN8’s delivery capabilities.

American Beech by the numbers

The project’s output is substantial and committed. American Beech Solar is projected to generate approximately 225,000 MWh annually, enough to serve an estimated 17,000 to 19,000 North Carolina households per year. That power is delivered directly into PJM under a long-term contract, making it capacity that the grid and its customers can plan around, not speculate on.
